As can be seen in my video, the cash register works beautifully- the bell ringing in and paper rolling when the drawer is opened. Internally the drawer has two coin wells and a section for notes. The wood is a lovely colour and has been waxed which makes for a nice tactile finish. A good quality lock is fitted impressed "Gledhill London" sadly there is no key. Gledhill & Sons Ltd was established by George Gledhill of Northgate primarily to produce his new inventions.
In 1886 he invented an "Automtac Cash Till". By 1892 he'd moved the business to Trinity Works, Halifax and also one in Huddersfield producing not only cash tills but time recorders and bomb release mechanisms. The business closed in 1975. I can't be completely sure when this particular cash till was made but would make an educated guess at the first quarter of the twentieth century.
Excellent overall barring chip to wood between the coin well and notes section inside the drawer.
